The ALAEQ was founded to help establish Chemical Ecology as an important part of the Latin American science by strengthening interactions among Latin American researchers, and also by bonding connections with researchers from the rest of the globe. There is a myriad of problems in Latin America which are waiting to be studied with Chemical Ecology tools, and consequently there is much space for existing and future collaborations. ALAEQ intends to be a platform for regional collaborations and a bridge to connect members from The International Society of Chemical Ecology (ISCE) and The Asia-Pacific Association of Chemical Ecologists (APACE).
We are pleased to announce that the VII Congress of the Latin American Association of Chemical Ecology (ALAEQ) will be held December 4-7, 2023 at the Institute of Physiology, Molecular Biology and Neurosciences (IFIBYNE), University of Buenos Aires, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The purpose of ALAEQ is to promote interactions between students and scientists dedicated to the study of the role of naturally occurring chemical compounds relevant for organisms and the environment. The biannual meetings give the opportunity to show advances in the structure, function, synthesis and biosynthesis of natural products related to organisms, their importance at all levels of ecological organization, their evolutionary origin and their practical applications.

The ALAEQ was formalized during the sixth Brazilian Meeting of Chemical Ecology (EBEQ, held from December 1-4, 2009 in Viçosa, MG), resulting in the first meeting of the association in Colonia de Sacramento (Uruguay) in 2010. This meeting brought together researchers from several Latin American countries with worldwide recognized researchers who support association creation. Association met for a second time in 2012 in Córdoba, Argentina, and again in November 2014 in Bogotá, Colombia. Both meetings were highly successful, both academically and socially, with 120-150 participants and excellent academic programs. The fourth meeting was held in 2016 in Foz de Iguazú, Brazil and was the first joint ALAEQ-ISCE meeting. In 2018, the fifth congress of ALAEQ was held in Valparaiso, Chile. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the meeting was virtually organized in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
For the next ALAEQ meeting in 2023, we will have plenary speakers, symposia, oral and poster presentations, welcoming all genders and cultural origins from Latin America and the world. The official language will be English and we encourage you to use it in all communications along the conference. However, oral speakers could use their native language keeping slides in English in order to improve the communication of their presentation.
